Official: Low moisture levels in southern Russia can cut crops

MOSCOW, Nov 1 (PRIME) -- Poor weather conditions in the southern regions can undermine Russia’s winter crops, Acting Director of Hydrometcenter of Russia Dmitry Kiktyov told PRIME on Thursday.

“I would emphasize the lack of moist among the unfavorable factors. The moist deficit can reduce the harvest on the south of the Volga River, the North Caucasus, the Southern Federal District, the grain belt,” Kiktyov said.

He said that conditions for winter grains on the whole vary strongly – Russia can boast of good conditions in its central part and normal conditions in the Urals and the south of Siberia.

Russia expects to harvest 109 million tonnes of grain in 2018 and export 38-39 tonnes.
